What is a mini skip good for?

Small jobs where you’d otherwise make two or three trips to the tip. A bathroom strip-out, a shed or loft clear-out, a garden tidy-up, or the waste from a weekend of DIY.

Its small size is the point. It fits on a drive, a front path or a parking space, so you rarely need a council permit, and it can be delivered without the lorry blocking the road for long.

It’s also a good home for heavy waste in small amounts. Soil from a new border, a few square metres of patio slabs or the tiles from a bathroom all fit, as long as you keep the load level with the sides.

Mini skip questions

How much is a mini skip?
Typically around £155 before VAT, and under £100 in the cheapest areas, depending on where you live. Prices vary by area, so check the guide prices for your town.
How big is a mini skip?
A 2 yard mini skip is about 1.5 metres long, 1.2 metres wide and 0.9 metres high. That’s small enough for almost any drive.
How many bin bags fit in a mini skip?
About 25 to 35 full black bin bags. Bulky items like furniture take up more space than bags.
Do I need a permit for a mini skip?
Only if it goes on the road. Most mini skips fit on a drive or a front path, so you rarely need one.
Is a mini skip big enough for a bathroom?
For a small bathroom, yes. If you’re removing a bath, tiles and plasterboard as well, a 4 yard midi gives you more room.
Can I put soil in a mini skip?
Yes. Mini skips are good for soil and rubble, filled level with the sides.
What is cheaper than a mini skip?
For a few bags, a skip bag or a trip to the tip. For one or two large items, the council’s bulky waste collection.
