Terms and conditions

The terms for using this website and for jobs you book through us. We book the job with a licensed, insured local company, who does the work. Please read them before you book.

1. About us

This website is run by Crestway Skip Hire (“we”, “us”), of 4 Blenheim Court, Peppercorn Close, Peterborough, PE1 2DU. You can contact us on 0333 880 1030 (lines open mon to fri, 8am to 5pm) or at hello@crestwayskiphire.co.uk.

We’re a booking service. We give guide prices and council permit information, and book skip hire, rubbish removal, grab hire and RoRo containers with local waste companies. We don’t own skips or lorries ourselves.

2. Who does the work

When you book, we place your booking with a local company that serves your area. That company delivers and collects the skip (or carries out the rubbish removal or grab hire) and disposes of the waste.

Every company we book is a registered waste carrier and holds public liability insurance for the work. We tell you which company is doing your job when we confirm the booking.

Your contract for the job itself is with that company, on the price, service and dates we confirm with you. The company may have its own terms for things these terms don’t cover; where they differ from what we’ve confirmed with you, what we’ve confirmed applies.

3. Using this website

The information on this website, including permit fees, council rules and size guidance, is general guidance. We check it carefully, but councils and companies change their fees and rules, so confirm anything important before you rely on it.

You may use this website for your own information. You may not copy large parts of it, scrape it or reuse its content or data commercially without our written permission.

Links to other websites, such as council pages, are for your convenience. We aren’t responsible for their content.

4. Prices

Prices shown on this website are guide prices and exclude VAT unless they say otherwise. Your price depends on your postcode, the size or service, the type of waste and how long you need it.

We confirm the full price when you book, including VAT and any permit fee. That confirmed price is the one you pay, unless the job changes (see Extra charges).

5. Booking

You book by phone. Your booking is confirmed when we agree the price, the service and the delivery date with you and the local company accepts the job. We’ll confirm the details, and the company’s name, by text or email if you give us a number or address for it.

The company will do its best to deliver on the agreed date. Delivery and collection times are estimates, because they depend on traffic, weather and the lorry’s other jobs, and a time of day can’t be guaranteed unless one has been agreed with you.

If the company can’t do the job on the agreed date, we’ll tell you as soon as we know and offer another date or another local company. If neither suits you, you can cancel without charge.

6. Your responsibilities

To keep the job safe and legal, you agree to:

  • Make sure the lorry can reach the spot you’ve chosen, and that the spot is clear on the day
  • Get permission from the landowner if the skip goes on land that isn’t yours
  • Tell us if the skip needs to go on the road, so the company can arrange a council permit before delivery
  • Not move the skip, cover its lights or markings, or place it somewhere other than agreed
  • Fill it no higher than the top edge, so it can be collected safely
  • Keep out anything that can’t go in a skip, such as asbestos, gas bottles, tyres, batteries, paint, chemicals, fridges and other electricals
  • Keep plasterboard separate from other waste if the company asks you to
  • Keep heavy waste such as soil and rubble to the sizes and limits agreed for your booking

7. Extra charges

The company can charge extra in the cases below. You’ll be told about any extra charge, and why, before it’s added. Extra charges can apply if:

  • The skip is overfilled and has to be levelled, or part unloaded, before collection
  • It contains items that can’t go in a skip and need separate disposal
  • The load is heavier than the agreed limit
  • The lorry can’t deliver or collect because access is blocked or the spot isn’t ready (a wasted journey)
  • You keep the skip longer than agreed, which may also need a permit extension

8. Road permits

A skip on a public road or pavement needs a council permit. Where you need one, the skip company applies for it on your behalf and the council’s fee is added to your price.

The skip can’t be delivered onto the road until the permit is issued, and it must stay within the permit’s dates and conditions. Councils set their own fees and many don’t refund a permit once it’s issued.

9. Cancelling

If you’re booking as a consumer, you have the right to cancel within 14 days of booking without giving a reason. To cancel, call us or email us, and we’ll cancel it with the company for you.

If you ask for delivery within those 14 days and then cancel after the work has started, you pay a fair amount for what’s been done, such as the delivery, and any permit fee already paid. Once the job is complete, the right to cancel ends.

If you cancel before the lorry has set off, there’s no charge for the delivery. If you cancel after it has set off, the company may charge for a wasted journey.

10. Damage and liability

Skips and lorries are heavy. The company will take reasonable care, but if you ask for a skip on a driveway, paving or a lawn, there’s a risk of marks or damage, so boards under it are recommended. The company isn’t responsible for damage caused by placing the skip where you asked, unless it was caused by its negligence.

The company is responsible for carrying out the work with reasonable care and skill, and its insurance covers damage it causes. We’re responsible for making your booking with reasonable care and skill: for the price, service and dates we confirm, and for booking a licensed, insured company.

You are responsible for the skip and its contents while it’s with you, including keeping it lit and marked on a road as the permit requires.

Our liability to you is limited to the price of the booking, except where the law doesn’t allow us to limit it. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your legal rights as a consumer, including the right to have services carried out with reasonable care and skill.

11. Waste and duty of care

By law, you have a duty of care to make sure your waste goes to a licensed carrier and is disposed of properly. Every company we book is a registered waste carrier, and you can ask it for a waste transfer note for your records.

12. Business customers

If you book for a business, the consumer cancellation rights under Cancelling don’t apply, and we aren’t liable for loss of profit, business or revenue. Payment terms for account customers are agreed separately.

13. Complaints

If something goes wrong, tell us as soon as you can on 0333 880 1030 or at hello@crestwayskiphire.co.uk, even if the problem is with the work itself. We’ll take it up with the company, and reply within 14 days.

14. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms in place when you book apply to that booking.
