  • The council aims to process skip licence requests within three working days.

  • Each skip on the road must be lit at night and coned off.

Getting a skip in Coventry

In Coventry's Chapelfields and Earlsdon, the terraced streets have no parking of their own, and the narrow roads are congested with parked cars. Your skip will go on the road there, so you'll need the council licence, and a 4 yard midi takes less of the kerb than a bigger skip. In Hillfields, the small terraces on Raglan, Winchester and Colchester Streets date from 1888 to 1905 and have vehicle access to the rear. Check whether that rear space is private before you book, because off the highway no licence applies.

In Coventry's Cannon Park every property has a garage, so the streets stay clear and a skip can often sit on your drive with no licence. If you only have up to five large items, the council's bulky collection takes them for £21.25, which may beat a skip. Newer homes in the north of Alderman's Green are set back with room for off-road parking, which suits an 8 yard large for a full clear-out.

In Coventry city centre, Hales Street, Trinity Street, Burges and Palmer Lane are open only to buses, cycles, taxis, private hire and permit holders between 10am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. The High Street and Cathedral area is limited to permit holders and authorised vehicles in those hours too. Deliveries beyond the bus gate need an access permit then. Ask the skip company to drop and collect your skip outside those hours or on a Sunday, when there are no restrictions. A 2 yard mini is the smallest skip if space is tight.

For one or two items, the council is often cheaper than a skip. Here’s how they compare.

Fly-tipping in Coventry

7,188 incidents reported across the Coventry Council area in 2024-25, about 19.5 per 1,000 people.

Council-wide figures, not just Coventry.

Nobody wants fly-tipping in Coventry. Whoever takes your waste, make sure they’re a licensed waste carrier. The skip companies on this site all are.

By law you’re responsible for your waste even after it’s collected. If it’s dumped and traced back to you, you can be fined.

Questions

Do I need a permit for a skip in Coventry, CV1 to CV6?
Only if it sits on the road or pavement. Coventry City Council licenses skips on the highway for £71 for up to 14 days, and the skip company applies. On your own drive or private land you need no licence.
Can a skip go on Trinity Street in Coventry's CV1 city centre?
Only outside the restricted hours or with a permit. From 10am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, Trinity Street is limited to buses, cycles, taxis, private hire and permit holders. Sundays have no restrictions, so ask the skip company about timing.
Is Coventry's Bar Road tip in CV3 better than a skip for rubble?
For a few bags, often it is. The Coventry centre off London Road takes up to six 25kg bags of home DIY soil and rubble per day, and you must book. Beyond that, heavy waste goes in a 6 yard builders skip or smaller.
What does a 4 yard midi cost in Chapelfields or Earlsdon, Coventry?
A 4 yard midi costs £185, and the range starts at £110 for a 2 yard mini. Chapelfields and Earlsdon terraces have no parking of their own, so the skip goes on the road. You'll add the council's £71 licence, which lasts up to 14 days.
Is Stoke Park part of Coventry's Stoke Green Conservation Area?
It is. Stoke Park forms part of the Stoke Green Conservation Area, with detached and semi-detached houses among many trees. Parking there is mixed, so check whether your drive takes the skip before you book a road licence.
