Getting a skip in Stone
In Stone, the terraces of Alma Street and Tunley Street have doors opening straight onto the street and small rear gardens. With your front door on the pavement there's no drive to use, so your skip goes on the road with a permit. The north-western streets are narrow with narrow pavements, so a 4 yard midi leaves more room than a larger skip. That area also sits inside Stone's conservation area.
Stone's High Street and Market Place are pedestrianised, with traffic sent round on Christchurch Way. If you're clearing a property there, plan the drop with the skip company. On farmers market days, vehicles must leave Market Square before trading starts at 9.00am. Along Lichfield Road, older post-war houses are often set back with sizeable gardens. You may have room there to keep an 8 yard large skip off the road, with no permit.
For a small job, Stone Recycling Centre on Beacon Road takes up to two 50-litre bags of rubble or soil from you. Two bags of DIY waste go free per visit. For up to three large items, Stafford Council's bulky collection costs £58.25, on a Monday or Wednesday. Once your job outgrows a few bags, a 6 yard builders skip takes heavy rubble and soil in one go.

Questions
- Do I need a permit for a skip in Stone?
- Only if it goes on the road or pavement. On your drive you need nothing. On the road, Staffordshire County Council charges £42 for up to 14 days, or 7 days on an A, B or C road. The skip company applies and must be registered with the council. Allow up to 5 working days.
- Can I put a skip on Alma Street in Stone?
- You can, with a road permit. Alma Street's terraces have doors opening directly onto the street and small rear gardens, so the skip sits on the road. A 2 yard mini or 4 yard midi suits these narrow streets best.
- Should I take rubble to Stone Recycling Centre instead?
- For a bag or two, the tip is the better choice. The Beacon Road centre takes up to two 50-litre bags of rubble, concrete or soil per visit. Bring a van or trailer and you'll need the county's van permit. Bigger loads belong in a 6 yard builders skip at £280.
- Would Stafford Council's pickup suit a few items from Tunley Street, Stone ST15?
- For three items or fewer, usually. Stafford Council collects up to three large items for £58.25, on a Monday or Wednesday. A clearance with more than that is easier in a skip, from £110 for a 2 yard mini.
- What does a skip cost in ST15?
- Prices start at £110 in ST15. A 4 yard midi costs £185 and an 8 yard large £260. A skip on your drive adds nothing. On the road, the county permit adds £42 for up to 14 days, or 7 on an A, B or C road.
